The Power of Choice Pertinent Patient Information Functionally Independent
Referral Assist allows providers to choose the information they want to send, which provider they want to send it to, and how it is sent. No more restrictions related to differing EHR's, geographic location, or transmission method. Select and send relevant patient health information that is clear, concise, and up to date. Referral Assist can be implemented as a standalone application or fully integrated into the Allscripts Enterprise EHR.

Common Questions

Can I refer patients to providers not on my EHR?
Yes, with Referral Assist you are free to refer patients to other providers based upon a variety of methods, none of which are limited by the sending/receiving EHR.
How are referring providers chosen?
Referral Assist allows physicians to select other providers using custom business logic, provider specialty, and geographic location. Physicians can then work with the patient to choose a referring provider and location that is most beneficial to their needs.
How is geographic location determined?
Through the seamless integration of Bing Maps into the Referral Assist application, users are able to view provider locations and their distance from the patient. This functionality can also be leveraged to supply a map and driving directions to the patient.
Is Referral Assist supported by Allscripts?
Galen fully supports Referral Assist in your Allscripts environment. Referral Assist utilizes standard components within Allscripts such as the Web Framework and the standard

Interface APIs.

What software or controls are required?
Referral Assist can be fully integrated into the Allscripts Enterprise EHR. No new ActiveX controls or other software is required.
How does Referral Assist impact the EHR?
There is no impact on the EHR in terms of limiting performance or other negative consequences. Loading the Referral Assist page is effortless, requiring fewer web page and database calls than most screens in the EHR.
What transmission methods are available?
Referrals originating from the Referral Assist application can be transmitted via e-mail, fax, and USB thumb drive.
What data can be sent with the referral?
With Referral Assist’s clinical summary builder, users can choose what clinical data, documents, and images are attached with their referral. Additionally, physicians have access to a customizable cover page that allows them to provide context to their order.
Do EHR upgrades affect Referral Assist?
There is no impact on the EHR in terms of performance or other negative consequences. Loading the eCalcs page is lightweight, requiring fewer web page and database calls than most screens in the EHR.
How does eCalcs support upgrades to the EHR?
Referral Assist is designed to be minimally impacted by any changes to the EHR. Upgrades and migrations may require Referral Assist’s components to be re-applied; however, configuration and software changes are rarely required with a new EHR version. In these cases, Galen will fully support the new version.
What new hardware is required?
No new server or PC hardware is required.
