Description

The Cardiovascular (CV) Risk calculator identifies a patient's 10 year and lifetime risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. This is defined by coronary death or nonfatal myocardial infarction and fatal or nonfatal stroke.

Limitations

Estimations are based on multiple populations and are applicable for White Caucasions and African Americans. For other ethnicities, it is recommended to use a different equation. The calcultor may underestimate for American Indians, South Asians and some Hispanics such as Puerto Ricans. The calculator may overestimate for Asian Americans and Mexican Americans.

Ranges

The Life Time Risk score can be calculated for patients between the ages of 20-59.

The Ten Year Risk score can be calculated for patients between the ages of 40-79.
